ANNOUNCEMENT: Returning Library Volunteers to "In-Person" Service

As Queens Public Library moves to Phase 2 of its Reopening Plan, it is diligently preparing to welcome volunteers back to "in-person" service within branches. With the Library continues towards this goal, we want to provide an update about several changes to expect upon your return.
QPL expects to offer a limited number of service projects during summer 2021 to assist staff members with on-site activities including:
Library Aide / Junior Page: Individuals may assist with shelving, reserve requests, cataloging, and circulation returns.
Computer Aide: Individuals may assist with managing computer lab sessions and on-site appointments.
However, due to restrictions regarding branch capacity and efforts to maintain strict social distancing protocols, the number of volunteer positions is expected to be small; and would be increased gradually over the next few months.
What to Expect When Applying
All individuals (new applicants / former volunteers) must apply online via the Search Page. Applicants, regardless of their current or former volunteer status with the Library must complete all requirements to be eligible for projects, including:
Minors (14-17 years)
- Submit an updated parental consent form including a COVID-19 Assumption of Risk Waiver.
- Complete an online Health and Safety Training
- Complete an online Volunteer Orientation
Adults (18 years and older)
- Provide online consent to a COVID-19 Assumption of Risk Waiver

Complete an updated criminal background screening

Complete an online Volunteer Orientation
Volunteers may be required to complete a skills training related to new job procedures. Once approved for service, individuals would receive an updated Volunteer Handbook.
What's Next
QPL is working to finalize placements within our branches and expects to begin posting in-person opportunities by July 15th.
