Chess Club Instructor at Langston Hughes 2018-19

DESCRIPTION
Studies have shown that chess helps promote intellectual growth and has been shown to improve academic performance, including improved scoring on standardized tests. We are looking for an experienced Chess Instructor to introduce the game, rules, and strategies to children and adults during the year.

SKILLS REQUIRED
  • 21 years old and up.
  • Able to explain game set-up and rules; demonstrate basic strategies; and guide participants through beginner-level play.
  • Comfortable working with all age groups: school-aged children (7-12), teens (13-18), adults, and older adults. 
  • Previous teaching experience a plus
SCHEDULE
Available Mondays - Fridays afternoons, starting at 4:00 PM. Volunteer schedules depend on individual dates and times available. 

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Individuals 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
