Adult Education Tutor at Rochdale ALC 2018-19
The Rochdale Adult Learning Center seeks volunteers who are dedicated to improving the educational and vocational opportunities of adult learners in New York City. The Adult Education Tutor at Rochdale ALC will provide assistance to students who are in need of improving their literacy skills. The tutor will work with students who need individual support and remediation on specific academic skills in all subject areas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist adult learners with digital literacy, reading, writing, math, science, social studies or speech via one on one and/or small group tutoring
- Employ cirriculum materials in response to student needs, and creates handouts, prompts, and assignments as needed
- Take attendance
- Distribute and collect forms
- Maintain confidentiality of student records
- Participate in staff trainings as required
REQUIREMENTS
- 18 years of age and older (college students perferred
- B+ or higher in any one subject area: ENG 125 and ENG 126; MATH 104, 111, and 120; or BIO 120, CHEM 106, PHYS 115, or SPCH 182 Voice and Diction
- Ability to communicate effectively individually and with groups
- Prior tutoring and/or teaching experience is perferred but not required
Must be able to work a flexible but dedicated schedule; minimum 2 hours per week
Volunteer schedules depend on individual dates and times available.
