Writer / Content Editor (Web, Print)

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Queens Public Library Programs and Services department is seeking a skilled, experienced Writer and Content Editor to assist members of the Children, Youth and Family Programs team to create and edit copy for web and print-based materials.

The individual is required to develop a clear understanding of CYF-related programming, aims and outcomes; and meet and work with the team to help screen content for consistent tone, language and brevity.

SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
This is a short-term, time-sensitive project requiring availability of 1-2 days a week through completion.

Candidates must be college graduate (or a rising senior) with training and 2-3 years of experience in content development for marketing materials.  Experience can include writing/editing/proofreading content for college newspapers and social media, and/or other quality volunteer work in public service organizations (nonprofit or government).

  • Strong sense of empathy and compassion for the communities QPL serves 
  • Optimistic, enthusiastic, with a can-do attitude and a strong ability to work with others
  • High levels of creativity, initiative, flexibility, and responsiveness
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Available between Monday - Fridays, 9:30am - 5:00pm
ADDITIONAL NOTES
  • Applicants must submit a resume and writing sample.
     
  • Individuals, 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
