Mobilizing the Vote: Teen Trainers
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Mobilize the Vote Youth Taskforce ("MTV") gives high school students a platform to share information on voter registration, highlight the role of local government and the best ways to become civically involved.
Teens wanted to become MTV Teen Trainers, responsible for planning and conducting three NYC Votes events for members of the Mobilize the Vote Youth Council.

Participants are trained by the NYC Campaign Finance Board and learn how to train others in the NYC Vote curriculum to understand the history of voter rights and its impact on the current political and social landscape; and the role of local government on shaping the future of voter engagement in America.

Once pariticipants complete their training, they begin coordinating NYC Votes events focused on helping their peers learn more about the topic; and strengthening important skills such public speaking, project management, event planning and facilitation.
SERVICE HOURS
Participants earn service hours for all trainings and events.
SCHEDULE

Attend an orientation meeting to be held on July 7 at 4pm.

Attend Teen Trainer virtual meetings to coordinate events

Attend three 45-minute sessions with the New York City Campaign Finance Board:

July 12 at 6pm - Civic Engagement Workshop Train the Trainer

July 19 at 6pm - Voter Mobilization Train the Trainer

July 26 at 6pm - Fall Group Planning Session

Hosting 3 NYC Votes event that include a Virtual Civic Engagement Workshop, a Virtual Voter Mobilization Training and a Virtual Voter Engagement Event
REQUIREMENTS

Must be a current high school student (9th - 12th grades)

Must be able to attend all required trainings and info sessions (see schedule)

Must be comfortable with public speaking and engaging with both teens and adults

Must be outgoing and friendly

Interest in public policy is helpful but not mandatory
