Are you uncertain about where to begin and what’s needed to get started?
If you answered “yes” to any (or all) of these questions, join Queens Public Library for Getting Ready to Volunteer: A How-To Guide for Tweens, Teens and Parents Thinking About Community Service.
This one-hour session offers details and resources to answer questions related to understanding the difference between volunteering and community service; knowing where to find potential opportunities; and tips to improve your chances of obtaining a placement.
Some questions to be answered include:
- What exactly is community service and how do I find suitable projects?
- How do middle school students complete community service (when they aren’t old enough to work)?
- What do teens need to get before applying for volunteer jobs and internships?
- Why are unpaid internships and volunteer opportunities important for college admission and scholarship applications?
- What are the most important steps for parents to help their kids secure volunteer opportunities and internships?
This session is geared towards middle and high school students with limited knowledge about available resources on community service projects and volunteer opportunities.
