Human Resources volunteer 2020-2021
The Human Resources volunteer is responsible for auditing QPL full-time employee’s timesheets using MS Excel and Adobe. RESPONSIBILITIES: Audits monthly full-time timesheets Converts MS Excel documents into PDF format for auditing Organizes timesheets into their corresponding folder Communicates to employees and managers corrections to their timesheets QUALIFICATIONS: Administrative and general office experience required. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, self-starter with an ability to work independently. Working knowledge of Adobe, MS Excel, and Outlook required. Ability to maintain confidentiality. SCHEDULE This is a remote volunteer opportunity. Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays open from 9 am– 5 pm ADDITIONAL NOTES Please upload your resume and cover letter as part of the volunteer application. Marketing Translators 2020-21
The QPL Marketing Team is seeking individuals fleunt (reading, writing, spoken) in a variety of languages and dialects to provide translation of print, digital and audio materials used to promote library programs and services. Queens is widely considered one of the most diverse county in the United States with 160+ languages spoken in the borough. As part of our motto to "Speak Your Language", QPL wants to ensure residents stay informed, feel welcome, and connect to library activities held both online and within their local branches. HOW IT WORKS We are looking for a minimum of three (3) people for each language and dialect to be available. Individuals would be on-call to translate materials into a selected language or dialect The Marketing Team would contact volunteers based on the translations needed to determine who is assigned the project After confirming availability and receiving the items, volunteers would have 24-36 hours to translate (using MS Word) and return to Marketing LANGUAGES NEEDED: Hebrew, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Arabic REQUIREMENTS Open to individuals 18 and older Must be available a minimum of 3 hours per week Must be fluent in English and one of the needed languages and dialects. This includes the ability to speak, read and write in both. Possess basic knowledge to use Microsoft Word to translate materials (this includes adding specific symbols, such as accent marks) Must possess an email account that can be used to send and receive information This is an "on-call" project. Contact and assignments would be disseminated "as-needed" by the department. Individuals would be required to check their email on a regular daily basis and respond in a timely manner. ADDITIONAL NOTES Individuals 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check and must submit a confidentiality agreement to be considered for this position. QPL Social Media Ambassadors 2020-2021
QPL Social Media Ambassadors Queens Public Library has a central role in the civic life of every neighborhood in Queens, offering a forum for the exchange of ideas, the pursuit of intellectual and personal growth, and the joy of learning to all. We are seeking individuals to help increase awareness of the Library, its resources, activities and opportunities through social media. Spread the word on social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and using the hashtag #MyQPL to tell others about your appreciation for the library and most importantly, your commitment to the community. What Does a Social Media Ambassador Do? Social Media Ambassadors represent a unique group of QPL volunteers that support our mission by strengthening our presence on social media. Add Queens Public Library to your list of social media platforms Receive and open regular emails sent by QPL and share updates about Library events, activities, available resources and materials with your networks -- include your own comments to personalize your posts.
