Civic Education is the knowledge and understanding of the American democratic process. The continued involvement of the public is essential to the fabric of democracy. Socio-economic and political decisions are influenced through the opinions and beliefs of informed citizens; and have a major impact in shaping the policies and direction of the nation.
Queens Public Library curates a civic education and information repository that identifies and compiles timely, relevant, essential information about various levels of the (United States) federal, (New York) state , and (New York) city government, elected representatives, legislation, processes, and resources into one central archive and easily accessible by the public. We provide information and materials in user-friendly print and digital formats that help explain the complexities of government and civic institutions, would better inform the public about current policies, representatives and resources; and detail the steps required to participate in the civic process.
