Run the River 5K 2019
Run the River 5K is a family-fun event hosted by the Randall’s Island Park Alliance (RIPA) to raise funds and awareness to help protect the beautiful waterways, shoreline and recreational areas of Randall’s Island Park. The event features a certified 5K run/walk that begins and ends in Icahn Stadium, followed by children’s races, an award ceremony and a post-race party with free musical entertainment, light refreshments, locally crafted beer, and lots of great prizes.
This year, Queens Library is partnering with RIPA to promote active and healthy lifestyles through environmental exploration and recreational opportunities at the Park for residents of surrounding neighborhoods.
Volunteers (16 and older) needed to represent Queens Library at several positions throughout the day and support the library's 5K team.
REQUIREMENTS
- 16 years old & up; Minors must upload a parental consent form.
- No working papers needed!
- Outgoing personality; able to talk with others
When: Saturday, September 21, 2019
Time: 8:00am - 2:00pm
Where: Icahn Stadium, Randall’s Island – 20 Randall’s Island Park, New York, NY 10035
Queens Library will provide transportation via bus to and from Randall's Island. Bus pickup and dropoff locations are at the Central Library.
More information will be provided in the upcoming weeks!
*Positions include:
Welcome Station: Greet runners outside Icahn Stadium and direct them to the Runner Registration Table or Check-in Table (if they have pre-registered)
Check-in Table: Check-in runners; distribute assigned bib numbers; provide wristbands to adults ages 21+ for beer service
T-shirt Distribution: Distribute Run the River 5K t-shirts to runners and staff
Bag Check: Collect and hold bags deposited by runners in a secure area and return bags to them at the end of the race
Water Stops: Fill cups and distribute water to runners on the course and at the finish line; cheer on runners
Course Guides: Direct runners along the course at key turns; cheer on runners
Food Table: Arrange food on tables and restock supplies from cartons as needed
Gift Bags: Distribute gift bags to runners after the race
*Final assignments based according to need
