Commonpoint Queens

We offer a variety of opportunities throughout Queens. We offer opportunities to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. From school to camp. Indoors and outdoors. Weekly opportunities to annual events, Commonpoint is one of Queens largest social service providers and will enlist you depending on your skill sets and interests.

Selfhelp Community Services

Recruiting for volunteers 18+ who enjoy interacting with Older Adults, have a topic they'd like to share, are comfortable leading an interactive class via video chat. The facilitator for the "Virtual Senior Center" program is a flexible recurring position which can occur day, evening or weekend. It provides an opportunity to lead one hour, interactive classes on a topic of your interest which could include the arts, history, news, health, computer training, brain games, the sciences, literature, etc.!

 

Reading Partners

We are seeking Reading Partners (Literacy Tutors) who will provide one-on-one tutoring for students K-4 reading below grade level in our Queens schools. Our volunteer tutors have varied experience, ranging from high school students to stay-at-home parents to retirees. No prior teaching experience is required. We only require that our volunteers be at least 14 years old and commit to at least an hour a week for a full semester.

All new volunteers will attend a tutor orientation to learn more about Reading Partners’ mission, model, and tutoring strategies. Volunteers are also required to pass a background check.
