NYC Libraries Fight Food Insecurity

Currently, 1.6 million New Yorkers, including 1 in 4 children are impacted and uncertain about when their next meal will occur. Recent changes to federal and state requirements to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are projected to affect over 100,000 people.

Queens Public Library is serving as an official community partner, along with Brooklyn Public Library, New York Public Library, NYPD, FDNY, and Apple Bank to support the Daily News Food Drive. This is the city's largest food collection event, hosted by City Harvest and New York Daily News.

Starting Tuesday, October 20th through Friday, January 15th, 2027, all open QPL branches (except the Breezy Point Mobile Library, the Far Rockaway Teen Library, and the Ravenswood Community Learning Center) will serve as collection sites to drop off canned goods, peanut butter (plastic jars), macaroni and cheese (packaged), hot and cold cereal (packaged, family sized), and juice packs.
