Arabic Translator - COVID-19 Project 2019-2020

Arabic Language Translators are needed to assist the Queens Memory COVID-19 Project with translating written submissions from Arabic-to-English to inclusion into the oral archive.

The Queens Memory COVID-19 Project documents the experiences of Queens residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through photos, written stories and recorded interviews, the Project details the experiences of individuals in the epicenter of the global pandemic.

Translators would be responsible for: Conducting remote oral history interviews with community members; basic copy editing, such as correcting grammar, punctuation and spelling errors; and creating English language summaries of each submission for future cataloging.

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be fluent in written and oral forms of both Arabic and English
  • Must be highly organized and able to work under a deadline
  • Comfortable speak with others
  • Able to work remotely via computer with internet access and print/scanning capabilities

This is a virtual service project. Virtual volunteers may be asked to provide confirmation that projects have been completed.  In most cases, volunteers would receive verification of project completion instead of completed service hours.

QPL virtual service opportunities maintain our commitment to quality and safety for the public.  All volunteers must meet library standards to participate in service projects.

Individuals 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
