TED Translators Program 2019-2020
Queens Public Library has partnered with the TED Translators program to offer library volunteers the opportunity to join a global community of individuals helping to share information in a one-of-a-kind "service exchange".
Registered QPL volunteers receive training and support to become a TED Translator; responsible for subtitling TED Talks at scale. Using a specially developed workflow and educational resources, volunteers can create high-quality subtitles for global audiences.
Requirements

Must be at least 16 years old

Should be fluent (oral and written) in both source and target languages

Should be fluent (oral and written) in the transcription language

TED is a global media nonprofit dedicated to spreading inspiring ideas about today's most important topics, from science to business to global issues. TED Translators make these ideas accessible to audiences worldwide by translating TED Talks online into 116 languages.

This is a virtual service project. Virtual volunteers may be asked to provide confirmation that projects have been completed. In most cases, volunteers would receive verification of project completion instead of completed service hours.
QPL virtual service opportunities maintain our commitment to quality and safety for the public. All volunteers must meet library standards to participate in service projects.
Individuals 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
