(Private) Library Aide at Howard Beach (QPL)
Summary
Library Aides/Junior Pages assist with checking in returned materials (i.e. books, DVD’s, CD’s), shelving books when needed, setting up promotional displays, mending books, cataloging items, and preparing reserve materials for pick-up. Other tasks may include: filing, emptying book bins, and labelling materials.
The job demands a commitment to orderliness. Volunteers should be detailed-oriented, highly organized, and possess good interpersonal skills (i.e. ability to work with and get along with others).
SKILLS REQUIRED
- 15 years old and up (High School students preferred)
- Available Monday - Fridays; exact times flexible
- Minimum of two hours per each day worked
- Minors must possess parental/guardian consent - (click to download)
- Good time management skills
- Dependable and organized
- Basic knowledge of Dewey Decimal system preferred (click to learn more)
- Some experience as a library aide or page preferred but not required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a volunteer to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Required to utilize a computer to enter and retrieve information; and to communicate with staff and external customers. Use of telephone, copier, fax and desktop computer other office equipment. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May use a computer/video display terminal.

This is an in-person project. Individuals, 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
