(PRIVATE) Homework Helpers at Children's Library Discovery Center
SUMMARY:
Homework Helpers assist youth during after-school hours to begin work on daily take home assignments. Volunteers help prioritize assignments and consult with staff to easily access Library materials and information. Common subject areas include Math, English Language Arts, Science, and History.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 14 years old and up
- Fluent in Spanish, Bengali, French, or Creole preferred
- Possess a solid knowledge of specific subject areas
- Able to assist student with homework for students in grades 1-6
- Patience and the ability to simplify and explain materials
- Must demonstrate appropriate behavior and judgment when working with children
- Good communication and time management skills
- Comfortable working in a busy and fast-paced setting
- Dependable and organized

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a volunteer to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Required to utilize a computer to enter and retrieve information; and to communicate with staff and external customers. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May use a computer/video display terminal.

Monday - Friday from 3:00pm - 6:00pm

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
