Community Service Partnerships

Queens Public Library partners with New York City high schools and community-based organizations to provide service-oriented projects within our neighborhood locations and programs.

These unpaid opportunities seek to increase community engagement; promote cultural awareness and understanding; and meet the social and educational needs of local residents throughout the borough.

We offer two distinct community service partnerships:

Academic - Local high schools, colleges, and universities connect students to activities and projects that satisfy civic engagement requirements, introduce students to the workplace and/or explore careers within the library system such as Finance, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Marketing.

Non-academic – Local organizations (Community Based Organizations, Senior Centers, Fraternities/Sororities, etc.) may choose to volunteer in small groups to support current library programs and events.  Volunteers work on existing projects that support program areas such as adult education and career preparation; assist customer groups including Older Adults and New Americans; or strengthen specific local neighborhood branches.
