Friends Legacy Project
The Friends Legacy Project serves to document the work and preserve the history of Friends of Queens Public Library groups for future generations.
The Friends of Queens Public Library has served the connection between the library and the communities we serve for three decades. Members have created a rich history of activism and engagement to support the mission of Queens Public Library; and helped make a significant impact in countless lives through your efforts to sponsor timely and relevant programming, provide literacy-based and educational activities; and increase awareness of resources and services offered through the library.
Starting this February, Queens Public Library is conducting interviews, gathering reflections and collecting materials from current Friends, former members, library staff, and others to compile both an oral and visual timeline filled with stories, photos, flyers, and articles.
WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE?
The Friends Legacy Project is open to current and past Friends of QPL members interested in sharing your reflections about your experiences with the group.
WHAT INFORMATION IS BEING COMPILED?
Interviews
We are looking to speak with individuals to discuss accomplishments and challenges of the group; reflections from board members (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Member-at-Large) to learn about the early beginnings and formation of the group.
Some questions may include:
- What prompted you to become a Friend of Queens Public Library?
- What were you hoping to accomplish during your tenure?
- What were 1-2 memorable accomplishments?
- What challenges did you encounter during your tenure?
- How did the neighborhood change during your tenure?
- Do you have any advice for future Friends of the Library members?
Materials
Additionally, the Friends Legacy Project is collecting materials to develop a visual timeline. We are interested in items such as photos, flyers, event programs, articles, and newsletters.
WHEN ARE INTERVIEWS BEING CONDUCTED?
Interviews are conducted on an ongoing basis. They are conducted online and in-person at QPL locations.
