Students interested in joining the QPL Newsroom for Winter/Spring 2026 must complete the Student Interest Form by Wednesday, February 25th and attend a mandatory in-person orientation on Saturday, February 28th from 11:00am - 2:00pm.

Who Can Join the QPL Newsroom?

QPL Newsroom is open to all students attending a New York City public, private, or parochial high school.  Students must be current freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors to participate.

When Does QPL Newsroom Operate

QPL Newsroom meets twice a week, operates at the Central Library and runs on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00pm - 6:00pm during the academic school year from September-June.

QPL Newsroom Editorial Calendar

Timeframe: Each publication cycle is 7-8 weeks/14-16 sessions and includes a dedicated student recruitment period.

Introduction to editorial process and review of Teen Central expectations

Collaborative brainstorming for Teen Central article topics (Session 1)

Refinement of ideas and initial topic selection (Session 2)

Week 3

Outline article structure; begin research

Continue research and start drafting sections

Week 4

Drafting: Write article introduction and main points

Peer sharing of drafts for early feedback

Week 5

Focused drafting: Complete article body and conclusion

First full draft peer review and discussion

Week 6

Revise article based on peer and instructor feedback

Optional visuals: Collaborate with photographers/illustrators

Week 7

Finalize article text and images for publication

Editorial team final review and approval

Week 8

Article publication and group celebration

Reflective discussion on editorial process and learning outcomes
