Touro College World of Work Summer Program

In partnership with Touro College, Queens Public Library is offering high school students the chance to participate in the Work of Work Summer Program.

This seven-week interactive, hands-on online seminar focuses on professional development skills. Through group discussions, activities, and assignments, students learn workplace etiquette advancement strategies and an introduction to leadership and professional communication/ presentation skills.

Along with the Touro Work of Work curriculum; students cover topics from the QPL Job and Business Academy (work skills, resume writing, and cover letters) and Civic Engagement Initiative (public speaking, media advocacy, and personal branding).

Upon completion of the seminar, student receive two (2) college credits from Touro College; and earn 28 community service hours.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  • Attend sessions twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. Program runs from July 6th through August 12th.

  • Participants must be rising high school sophomores (entering 10th grade in September 2021) through seniors (graduated by June 2021).


ESSAY QUESTION
Write a minimum of 6-8 detailed sentences answering the following question - "Based on the description, How is attending the World of Work Seminar important towards achieving your current or future school and/or career goals?" Be sure to include details and examples to help illustrate your ideas and thoughts.

NOTE - You will not be able to save your application and return to complete the question.  Instead, you are advised to write your answer in a different application (Google Docs, MS Word, etc.); and then copy and paste the information into your application. 

DEADLINE
Applications must be submitted by Sunday, June 27 at 11:59pm.  This program is limited to 25 people.  Students will be notified of their acceptance into the program by July 2nd.
