Chess Club Instructor at East Flushing (QPL)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
East Flushing Library is seeking an experienced Chess player/instructors to introduce the game, rules and strategies to school aged children in grades 3-8; as part of an ongoing program throughout the year.

Volunteers will arrive early to assist the set-up of board games and assist Library staff in putting away materials at the end of the program.

SKILLS REQUIRED

  • 16 years old and up.
  • Minors must upload valid parental/guardian consent & NYS working papers.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of chess is required.
  • Able to teach beginner to intermediate level play.
  • Must have a cheerful attitude and enjoy working with children.
  • Must demonstrate appropriate behavior and judgment when working with children.
  • Good communication and time management skills.

SCHEDULE
Thursdays between 4:00pm - 6:00pm; and Saturdays between 11:00am - 2:00pm
 

ADDITIONAL NOTES
This is an in-person project.  Individuals, 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
