Homework Helper at Woodhaven (QPL)
HOMEWORK HELPER
Homework Helpers assist youth during after-school hours to begin work on daily take-home assignments. Volunteers help prioritize assignments and consult with staff to easily access Library materials and information. Common subject areas include Math, English Language Arts, Science, and History.
Under supervision, volunteers:
- Assist school-aged children (5-11 years old) with homework
- Participate in training and development sessions to improve tutoring practices and learn new tutoring techniques.
- Serve as a mentor/positive role model and uphold professional behavior at all times
- Ability and willingness to do other duties as required, including computer assistance, book shelving and shelf reading.
Additionally, volunteers may be required to assist with basic Library Aide duties - including, checking in returned materials (i.e. books, DVD’s, CD’s), shelving books when needed, setting up promotional displays, mending books, cataloging items, and preparing reserve materials for pick-up.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- 15 years old and up
- Comfortable working in a busy and fast-paced setting
- Dependable and organized
- Patience and the ability to simplify and explain materials
- Must demonstrate appropriate behavior and judgment when working with children.
- Good communication and time management skills.

Monday: 2:00pm-6:00pm
Tuesday: 2:00pm-6:00pm
Wednesday: 2:00pm-6:00pm
Thursday: 2:00pm-6:00pm
Friday: 2:00pm-6:00pm

This is an in-person opportunity. Individuals, 18 and older are subject to an investigative background check that may be used when considering volunteers.
