Homework Helper at Forest Hills (16+)
SUMMARY:
Forest Hills is seeking Homework Helpers to assist students in grades 7-9 with English and Math concepts. Volunteers will assist students during after-school hours to begin work on daily take home assignments. Volunteers help prioritize assignments and consult with staff to easily access Library materials and information. The expected outcome is to support students’ understanding, improve academic skills, and help them gain confidence in their learning.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- 16 years old and up
- Able to assist student with homework for students in grades 7-9
- Strong understanding of middle school English and Math concepts
- Good communication skills
- Ability to explain ideas clearly and patiently
- Responsible, dependable, and willing to support students in a positive learning environment
- Some experience helping peers, tutoring, volunteering, or assisting with homework is preferred but not required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a volunteer to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Required to utilize a computer to enter and retrieve information; and to communicate with staff and external customers. May occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. May use a computer/video display terminal.
SCHEDULE:
Volunteer schedules depend on individual dates and times available.
Monday: 3pm - 5pm
Tuesday: 3pm - 5pm
Wednesday: 3pm - 5pm
Thursday: 3pm - 5pm
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
This is an in-person project. The application process may take a minimum of thirty (30) or more days to fully complete depending on the volume of candidates at any time. Your patience during this period is appreciated.
