Program Guidelines

 

Who Should Apply

Work of Work for Teens is open to teens attending a a NYC public, parochial, or private high school, and who are rising (entering in September 2024) sophomores, juniors, and seniors, or seniors who graduated in June 2024. 

 

Criteria 

Students interested in applying must satisfy the following requirements: 

  1. Complete an online application 
  2. Complete the Essay Questions 
  3. Submit the Touro University Health Form** 

 

Completing the Essay 

Students must write an essay between 800-1,000 words that answers the following questions:  

  1. What are your career interests, aspirations, and/or goals following high school? 
  2. What are some challenges or obstacles you may encounter before achieving your career goals? 
  • Discuss how you plan to address some of these challenges
  • Discuss the resources, information, skills, or personal characteristics or traits you may need to possess to overcome these challenges  
  1. Based on your understanding of the program, describe 2-3 ways the World of Work program can help towards achieving your post-high school goals. 

  

Submission Deadline

The submission deadline has been extended.  Completed applications, including the written essay and signed consent forms must be submitted by Saturday, April 27th, 11:59pm.

 

Review Process 

Essays are reviewed and scored based on your ability to demonstrate critical thinking about your future; and the potential impact of society towards helping or hindering your journey into the workplace.  Students should look to provide details in your writing and use examples to illustrate key points.   Essays are not evaluated based on grammar and spelling. 

  

Notice of Acceptance, Non-Acceptance, and Waitlist Status 

Applicants are notified on May 6th, of their acceptance or non-acceptance into the program.  Students are contacted regardless of the decision.  All notifications occur via email. 

 In some cases, students are placed on the waitlist and accepted into the program based on an available slot. 

  

Touro University Health Form 

Students chosen for the World of Work program must submit the Touro University Health form prior to the start of the program.  Health forms will only be sent to students selected and confirmed to attend the program.  (THIS REQUIREMENT HAS BEEN WAIVED - UPDATED 4.5.24)
